A ratio shows how much there is of one thing compared with another thing.

  • The ratio of cows to sheep on a farm is 2:3. I have 500 animals in total.
    • How many cows are there and how many sheep?

  • Divide the total number of animals by the total number of parts to find out how many animals there are in each equal part.
3) Multiply ratios by 100

3) Multiply ratios by 100

  • Multiply 100 (the number of animals in each part) by each side of the ratio to find the numbers of cows and sheep.
